setting up a backdrop(3 roller) mount -ceiling or wall?

Hello all, I just bought a 3 roller backdrop mount, I am debating whether to install it hanging from the ceiling or from the wall, any recommendations? any pros and cons on each? I have a crown molding on the upper corner of the wall so I will have to cut a piece if I decide to install it on the wall.

Mount it to the wall so the mounting hardware is in shear, and make absolutely sure your mounting hardware goes into wall studs. Other wise you will want to use mounting strips on the wall that are mounted to studs, and then hang the backdrop brackets from the mounting strips.

thank you for your input, I was checking last night and since I have a crown molding I have two options, place the mount on the wall below the crown molding, which will look horrible, or cut the crown molding which seems more of a feat. with the wall option I loose about a foot on the height, with the ceiling option (I painted the mounts white to camouflage with the white ceiling) I dont have to tamper with the crown molding, and two of the screws are anchored to a wood beam, while the other two are supported with butterfly anchors.

Yep. It's the butterfly anchors I wouldn't want to trust, and for mounting to the ceiling in a wood beam I would want to use lag screws.

As Keith said, mounting into wall studs is the stronger option because the weight is being held by the body of the screws. If you mount vertically, it's only the threads that are holding the weight.

What does your crown molding look like? Do you foresee having to move/sell the place? Cutting a chuck out shouldn't be too hard, and depending on how it's finished, it may not be too much trouble to replace the piece later.
