$1200 RT to Bangkok, you can easily get 3 weeks away for <$2500 including the to and from.

Now you will think I am in a bubble, what does AFAIC mean?

Compared to Vietnam in 1998, Thailand is like a walk in the park. Laos is a bit difficult to travel because of bad roads but safe and immense fun.
