already more than sure I should have had a light on her back too, but it was damn windy and we just kind of wanted to get in and out.

#3 has possibilities.

I don't care for the others. Fairly good exposures, but the light seems flat in those three.

You're learning why a 1:1 lighting ratio is generally bad. It looks flat. Try the same setup, but dial one side +1/2 and the other one down -1.0, see what happens.

These feel underexposed, hence the +1/2 suggestion for the key.

Interesting looking model, though! You should take a little time to flip through some magazines to get an idea of how she might hold herself, other than standing there.

fair enough.

Thanks I'll try that next time. Like I said this was my first time.

The exposures are under except the first and the skin is not a pleasing value. It might have looked brighter on your monitor if you weren't calibrated. At least some part of the skin should register in a natural tone. That could also be an effect of color accuracy. Everything looks muted to me and for a girl like this you don't want muted. There's a difference between not making flash obvious and not having interesting light. Use of flash is not very obvious in these images, but then again the light isn't interesting. There's no dimension.

exposures look better? (good thing about shooting RAW)

I'll work on my light placement/power next time. Flash is still new to me.

as for the face/skin tone. That might be from the light topaz filter I applied.

Not bad first attempt, but the model's poses (non-poses?) make the photos feel awkward, IMO.

I think it would have looked better if you moved the model away from the wall a bit to darken the wall slightly relative to the model, and soften its details, which together would bring more attention to the girl.
