well I tried increasing the highlights, the darks, and giving a bit higher exposure along with the sepia tone, but does the sepia tone take away or what?

I think the toning detracts. I want to be shocked, not bored.

Yeah but it's too dark. You may have to crop a bit off the right hand side to keep from blowing the whole thing out when brightening.
