LOL nicks and scratches...cute. My D700 is gaff taped because otherwise the back opens up like a 35mm film camera.

-There was a short in the main circuit board from a piece of metal touching it. Gaff'd it to the exterior to keep it back, no longer shorts out now.
-The screen popped out (nothing a little loctite couldn't fix)
-playback button smashed in
-all inputs/outputs on the left side smashed in
-AF/Menu multi selector inoperable when shooting, only goes down and right in playback or menu
-OK button inoperable
-AF area selection switch inoperable
-Pop up flash sync inoperable
-info button and zoom in button only operable if you press down on the screen area
-AF area is permanently single point and center. All other AF areas inoperable
-Body is cracked on the top deck, left plate, bottom plate, and back plate.

Otherwise it still shoots like it was new out of the box.

No story? Did you get a new camera or is this still your main body?

you do realize you can't post that without an explanation of what happened right?? lol

Story goes: tripod fell down onto concrete in 60mph wind gusts :p

State Farm gave me $2500 to replace it when local repair deemed it totaled. With the money, I went out and bought a Contax 645 kit and 3 120/220 backs, and now that's my main body :D

If I absolutely need to shoot digital and can't get away with shooting the D700 or need a primary/backup, I rent D4's. I hate the body and hate shooting with it, but god damn is the AF and high ISO killer.

Moral: Always weigh down tripods in 60mph winds. Hahah
Do you buy separate insurance for your camera gear?

I'd show a photo of my 50mm prime lens, but I'd need to drain the Chesapeake Bay to find it. My wife just LOVES to tell that story to all our friends

Luckily the camera was in the case (Lowepro top-loader) when it was dropped to the street while getting out of the car. A rubber band wrapped around the filter helped get it off; the lens was pretty much undamaged.

How'd you manage to drop the lens into the bay?

Laziness. Instead of setting the bag down, I was trying to switch from 50mm to wide angle single handed. When the 50mm left the mount, I lost my grip and from there it was a slow motion moment. It hit my shoe, rolled about a foot right off the side of the deck. Those 2 seconds seemed to last 15 and all I could do is watch. When it comes to this story, my wife is like a a shark in bloody water and shows no mercy...LOL The story usual ends with the word "Plop"

Had my Canon 60D on a tripod with the swivel screen out, someone knocked on the door, I went to answer it at the same time my wife let the dogs in the house from the back yard. My 100lb german shep came running in and knocked it over landing on the LCD screen and bending it way too far forward. I had to bend the metal frame back and open it up to reconnect some stuff to get it to work again. Works fine now, but in my opinion these swivel LCD screens are just a bad idea waiting to be broken.

You could just fold it in and pretend it's not there, haha.

I sometimes do. I honestly hate that thing, but it is good for some macro work and for getting really low, or really high. I usually leave it turned out, but tucked in. I however do like that I can flip the LCD screen safely to the inside when I'm not using it or carrying it around.
