Sigma 17-35 canon mount. whats the deal with this? PIX included.

Ok i have this sigma 17-35ex lens. I use to shoot with it on my 1n film body but it wont work on my 40d. The 40d will take the pictures but its not focusing quick and the view finer gets darker only when i put this lens on. Can someone verify if this lens is only for use on a film body or will it work on a digital body but the lens just doesnt work at all?

I think you may need to contact Sigma and see if it need to be re-chipped.
