Sigma's 24 1.8 EX DG Old Version Thoughts

I was browsing eBay this morning looking for some once in a lifetime lens deals and came across a Sigma 24 1.8 EX DG for under $300 and just wondered if anyone here at TPF had any experiences with this lens and want to share their thoughts.

I checked out some photos shared on Flickr using a full frame and this lens and they looks pretty good. Lens seems to be sharp and it can focus 1:3 which is nice and being a 1.8, it can make for some rather interesting shots. Though from one review I've read that shooting wide open is rather weak performer but stopped down a little its good. It would make for a great astrophotography lens too.

Yes, its not an ART lens but the price to performance ratio seems to be rather good.
