After receiving my new gear I wanted to get a shot in all my 'gear'.

I love the new Manfrotto boom. Its extremely easy to maneuver and adjust. The only hard part is first setting it up. But once you get it balanced and adjusted, its amazingly easy to use and push around.

It came with a 15lb plate to use on the opposite end to balance, and then I ordered two 15lb bags to put on the base.

The new Octabox is HUGE. I like the light it gives off, doesn't matter how high you turn the flash up it still delivers evenly and pretty soft throughout!

I accidentally ordered two of them though, and I called up Paul C Buff and they said I could return it and get a full refund, so that was cool of them.

I got the grid for the Octabox, but haven't opened it yet, I'm sure I could of used it for this shoot though.

I'm not sure which direction I'm going to go with this, whether I'm going to through it on a dark background and go for a dark look or whether I'm going to create a suspenseful composition.

But here you go for the impatient ones :)

Promaster 160A (Fill)

Behind the scenes
The only difference was I did not have the 300 on the background, I used it for the Rim light (I took a second picture of the Fiancé and wanted the background lit up. Will post that one after I edit it.)

Good deal! You will find the 15 pound counterweight is very handy when you have the arm extended to maximum, or when you hang something off of the boom arm, like say a cored roll of paper or a heavy fabric.

I noticed that. I had the Einstein and the Octabox. Which I would guess is pretty heavy for a "pole". I'd guess at least 5-6lbs?

It didn't even budge. I still had prolly 3 feet I could extend the pole too before it was maxed out.

Yeah...that is why I was so in favor of you getting the heavy-duty, dedicated boom stand...the doggone thing is just really, really handy!!! For example, when you need to do a headshot...bring the boom in, extend the pole, angle it UP a few degrees above horizontal, hang the counterwight, then A-clamp on a fabric...muslin, sheet, microfiber blanket is one of my faves (the ones from Target!!!), and then all by yourself, LIFT the boom arm up, then lock it. DONE! Really fast and easy to set up a backdrop on location or in studio. And the neat thing??? You can angle the backdrop away from the subject on one end, and get some neat fall-off, or you can roll the stand closer, or farther away, even when working ALONE. Safely. Easily. Just a good piece of equipment all around.

Are you sure these lights are on? Seems to me that you would get more light showing.

You are correct, there should be more light. I just had the settings to light. And I'm really not sure why I shot at f22 to be honest. I think its because I wasn't getting the whole gun in focus so I kept bumping up the f stop and kept bumping the main light but forgot to bump up the other lights.

So mark it up to another mistake on my part :(

I do not, I usually just eyeball it. I start with one light, then add a second, and if I feel it needs a third. Etc.

I actually think a little of my problem is the output from my camera to my monitor is off.

Like my camera display is brighter than my computer, so when I take the shot I always make them a tad darker and then when I get to my computer they are really dark.

I may have to check that.

I do, and it made off camera flash so so much easier. No more guesswork. No guess and check. Well worth the monies.

I'll have to look into that. I never really thought about it honestly.

I just set up the lights to where I think they should be, shoot. Adjust, then shoot again haha.
