There are times I want to take a Silhouette but I just dont know what to do.

I had this photo taken in Yosemite and I love the affect:

How can I take better Silhouettes?

Increase your black point to where the silhouettes are actually silhouettes. The first shot could have been framed with the subjects further away from the edge. The second shot could benefit from having been metered on the sky to avoid blowing out (again, might be difficult to get the water in that shot without doing some multiple image layering and masking). #2 could stand a tighter crop, using the cave as a frame still with less negative space at the top might improve it a bit. The second one's pretty appealing, though.
