Anyone who has a 15 year old boy knows how hard it is to get a photo, let alone one where there isn't a disgusted face, bunny ears or the "you're #1" sign.

This is as good as it got, I'm happy to report no one died, was hurt or cried in the making of this image.

Yes the sky is blown, but I'm ok with it.

Other than the watermark, I think the first is well done. The second is a bit too loose with the framing, IMO.

In all honesty, it's hard to get past the watermark. It is the first things my eye goes to. The subject is secondary, and then I go back to the watermark.

What were the settings on the first image? A wider aperture (i'm assuming you used a small one) would have been better, as the background is.. not attractive, and in my opinion, distracting.

Regards,
Jake

Do you mean the second one? Because I thought the background made the image for the first one...The second one I didn't care much for the background which is why I thought it should be framed tighter, but I thought the background for the first was great.

The only things I would change about the first is the watermark and I would have burned the silhouettes a bit to make them true silhouettes instead of having the little detail that remains, particularly, the boy on the left's tennis shoes.

Settings for #2 were: SS: 1/50, F/5.6 and ISO 250. I could try and bring up the apterure by a couple of stops but the kids were all on different focal planes so I played it safe and set it a little high so everyone would be in focus.

Thanks for noting the shoe in #1, I'll burn that some.

Watermark won't be changing, anytime I post something that can be right-clicked I put that watermark on it. I'd rather be safe than sorry when it comes it child photography (I've had an image of a friends daughter show up as fake profile on Orkut, so now I'm uber strick when it comes to watermarking).
