I've been messing around with some macro stuff lately and I had some cash ducats on hand....

I shot these with my rebel xs and used a 35-80mm with the focusing element removed. You have to focus by moving closer, or further away from the subject. It isn't the most Ideal setup for macro stuff, but it didn't cost me any money.

The one that I like the best is the last one. It looks more in focus and the detail is better. My eyes just seem to be drawn to that one more so than the others.
