The background is too distracting, especially since his clothing does not promote much detail.

Maybe it was a bit unfortunate that by the time (of day) you came to witness this little scene, the background was bathed in sunlight and your subject was in the shadow. But I still think all in all the background helps getting a feel for the overall context this photo was taken in. And I take it you selectively highlighted his body and face as much as you could without him getting haloed?

Overall I like this one as a street photo.

yeah, it was 2 in the afternoon or something i think. i did my best to darken the background and highlighted his body and face as much as possible. but the black clothes (against the black car in the bg) don't really help. maybe he should have gotten some more white staines on his clothes.
