I received a flyer in the mail today advertising a scanner with the following features:

35MM film scanner
5.0 megapixels CMOS sensor equals to 1829 dpi enhanced 3600 dpi
10 bits per colour channel for data conversion
fixed focus
Auto exposure control
Auto colour balance
3 white LED back light light source
Includes editing software
$149.85 Canadian plus $20.00 shipping

I know nothing about scanners. Does this sound like a good deal?

Joe.

This sounds like a very cheap camera taking a photo of a negative that is lit from the back by 3 LEDs.

I doubt you'd get quality up there of a proper film scanner such as the units made by Nikon or Canon, but after building my own DIY rig which does something similar: http://www.thephotoforum.com/forum/...59691-diy-film-scanning-flash-macro-lens.html I would have to say it probably at least matches basic flatbed scanners.
