Slide Scanner

I'm starting to shoot film more but I've run into the problem of scanning slides. The photography shop where I develop my film charges about .50 per scan which works out to about 12-18 bucks per roll. So I wanted to get a slide scanner and just wanted to know which one under $1000 provides the best results. I'm not expecting $10,000 quality but I would like resolution for 8X12's at the least.

Resolution isn't the problem, it's color.Epson v700's aren't bad.
