IMO, overcooked HDR effects like this are a bad idea for anything to do with a bride. It's a pretty big no no with every pro I know. The more natural, legitimate high dynamic range technique would be just fine, but this over the top, cartoony look is counterproductive. Your image would have looked much better with natural processing.

I agree with James... HDR (or at least OverCooked HDR) is not a good choice for bridal shots... unless you a making a Meme of some sort...

Thanks for the feedback. It does have an overlooked look which is exactly what I wanted. I have your everyday shots of course, this is from her bridal session.


This is becoming my niche in my local area, after seeing the photo, the bride fell in love with it as she said she has never seen anything like it... which is exactly what I wanted to hear. I want brides to come to me for something different.

I understand a lot of pros say to stay from overlooked HDR, but I also know of a few pro wedding photographers who often say that their way is not the right way, I took their advice and so far it's paying off. I know not every bride will want this look and that's okay, I don't want every bride. I want the bride who does want it.

one word comes to mind, WOW. The affect you achieved with it while it may looked overdone does not detract from it I think. I think it is nicely shot and the affect that you got from it should make this bride proud to have that on her wall!!

I think its awesome but I have always like"different" and "unique" shots. I love it there isn't anything I didn't like about it.
