Smoke- Rings

I've been attempting to photograph smoke-rings where only the smoke is illuminated for some years now without success, it's time I ask for help. The image I'm after, the smoke is all the light falls on, everything else is totally black.

I'm on my iPod so can't link it but KmH posted a set of smoke shots with a tutorial not long ago, perhaps track that down and check it out
