No wildlife dies on my watch. Even the bitchy turtles. You done good Barb!
I saved three yesterday in Algonquin They all moved as soon as I came near them. Just lifted up and moved. But that shovel is staying in my trunk. Never again will I try to move them without it.Great job Barb...
But actually in truth the behavior you describe.. that's a snapping turtle in a good mood that's being cooperative. Usually they are even harder to deal with.. lol
Thank you.Good job and great pics.

Bravo! And thanks for sharing the story and the photos. The snapping turtle from HELL. I had read all the instructions on how to move a snapping turtle off the road. I was so confident when I jumped out of the car to save her. And then it all went to hell.
As soon as I touched her, she *freaked* out. Dug her claws in, tried to bite me multiple times, hit me with her tail and back legs and scared the ever living crap out of me. As my boyfriend and his daughter died laughing in the car.
But I was not leaving her on the road to die. So Patrick got her to bite the ice scraper and I scooped her up with my emergency snow shovel. I love turtles, but this one, not so much.
These were taken after we had her off the road.

She is NOT smiling at me, she's plotting my death.

LOL I imagine it was pretty funny to watch. I tried multiple times before resorting to the shovel.Nice move, or moves. While it wasn't humorous to you, I can appreciate that onlookers might find it a bit funny, well, maybe more than a bit.

I know! That's why I made sure I knew how to safely move them. Except it didn't work! You're lucky you escaped with just a scare. They can be nasty!
