Snow shut our town down...

Well needless to say we NEVER get snow here. We got a good DUMP of it the 26th and it shut the town down! I decided to go out and capture a few pictures with my First DSLR my wife got me for Christmas "nikon d5000" Let me know what you guys think and any tips/tricks to make them better would be awesome!

First off you have quite a bit of reading to do. You need to learn about composition and exposure. Composition is basically how things are placed in your photo, how things 'flow', the position of the background and objects in relation to the position of your subject, etc. Exposure is, in layman's terms, how the light is interacting with the objects in your photo. This means how light/dark everything is, how 'blurry' it (which could be focus or movement), etc. You want to make sure your subject isn't too dark or too light. You make sure an image is properly exposed by using the 'Exposure Triangle'.

Great site with constant updates; I always go through and check their articles.

The first shot actually isn't TOO bad, maybe alittle too touched. (Or maybe the shunken image makes it look like that on my work monitor). The second one is pretty bleh.

The third; more DoF could've made that a pretty decent image, especially if you had a matching rim from the window; but that wouldn't look right on your JEEP.
