any critiques would be nice ... i need to know what to improve on! thanks :)

I like the first photo. I think tighter crops would help all of them.

is this better?

First photo rocks, thanks for sharing.
I love the snow!

Nice photo, the crop makes it much better.
Still waiting for the snow here, friday..friday...

thanks!

i have a pretty lame question -- for more DOF, I was trying to do so by simply setting the F stop to like 3.0. How can I make more DOF (maybe by manually focusing?)

More DoF would be smaller aperture.

Nice job getting white snow rather than 18% gray snow. ;)

great pictures! first one is awesome, 2nd crop is also awesome!

keep up the good work

+ for deeper DOF, (correct me if i am wrong) get farther away and zoom in then focus on subject

Up your f no' to around 8.0. Can you control Aperture with a Coolpix? Personally i don't think you need more dof and the crop has moved the Leaf away from the focal point imo. I prefer the original. You could straighten it a little though.

hmm, there's aperture priority and shutter priority. I was on aperture priority with it set to like 3.0 or something.

Would manual focusing help? I just tried it yesterday and it was kind of interesting. It would focus in a lot on one spot and then when i hit the "take picture" it would zoom out again. Does that mean it focused in on that one spot?

This is more of a side note: Looking at your posts and reading your comments, you seem to be in a place I was a few years ago: progressing fast and getting creative with a point and shoot. For the level of control you want, you may be soon looking at getting an SLR for the added creative freedom. Sorry for your wallet!
The first picture is very nice indeed, even before the crop.
Cheers
