I agree with mully. I would add that similar to taking a portrait, try not to leave so much head room next time that way you'll have more or all of the tail feathers.
Another good idea is to leave a little room around your subject so that you can crop in later. It leaves you with more wiggle room for composition.
Macaws are lovely birds with rich colors.
OP you posted before I finished my response so.... I know understand why you were in so tight. I guess the above info is at least food for thought.
