I am not that great at tutorials, so I created this to hopefully help explain how I think and the process of creating the images you like
What you see in the three image composite is...
1. the starting image
2. a composite of layers without the starting image turned on
3. The final image as a screen cap showing the layers used

Hopefully clear as mud

Perfect - yes, I can certainly follow what you're doing there. And you must have very special mud in Australia - it's as clear as pure water.

Thank you, Chris. This is very helpful. You've given me another motivation to learn how to use the layers and masking to achieve the artistic vision. I've done only the minimum of adjusting of images so far, so this is a good nudge to move on and learn something useful.
