Some opinions please

I am about to go check out a used Nikon 10-24mm AF-S. Wanting to pick up a wide angle for the longest time and was always looking at the Tokina 11-16 but i could never find one used or they would be snatched up quickly. The Nikon is about $400 below retail and in A+ condition according to the seller. Anybody have any experience with this lens?

Also, worth it to go from the 50mm 1.8D to the 1.8G or even 1.4D? I've been reading some pretty mediocre reviews on the 1.4D and that's what i was thinking of going to. Thing is, from what I am reading people are having some real issue with sharpness wide open or close to wide open (which i guess is normal) saying that it is pretty sharp @ 2.8. What's the point when my 1.8D is sharp at that aperture.

Well after the abundance of info i received lol...i picked up the 10-24mm and 50mm 1.4D. Couldn't resist for the price.
