Some portraits of a friend for c&c please!

Wow, I've loved watching your progress!

The second shot is just gorgeous.. You need to get that printed for her.. Big!!!

My only CC right now: In your B&W conversion, I'm seeing the blacks running together a bit too much, and it all sort of feels on the grey side. It would be great with a little more dynamic range, and more detail in the shadows.. Overall great set and it looks like you had a lot of fun =)

Thanks, I think you're right.. someone else mentioned it was too contrasty too.. I'll try some different re-edits.

And thanks to everyone else for the comments.

For the critiques of my friend, whatever. It's like some wedding photos I posted once and people were critiquing the bridesmaid's hair... I just ignore those comments. These people I'm working with are not paid models and I owe them a debt of gratitude for letting me practice with them (the girl from this shoot spent the evening in front of my camera, helped carry lighting stuff and was super helpful in helping me with some shots). But, I did read the comments and I'll keep stuff like that in mind for future photo shoots.

I love that in #2 she's very clearly in focus, but there's just enough motion blur on the hoops to show that they're moving

I guess you directed this at me. I wasn't criticising your friend. I was critiquing your ability to get the best out of her as a model. I don't think you achieved that to be honest. I am sure she is a lovely young woman. Just a shame your photos (that you showed here) didn't capture that. But that is my opinion only. There is more to portrait photography than just the technical aspects of the photography. Messy hair is OK if it brings out the personality of the model or the theme of the shot. Otherwise it just looks like messy hair.

Again I say these comments not to be mean but to help you.: You can ignore them if you want but you asked for the critique. As for your friend let me say again I was not criticising her as person or human being. You are lucky to have a good friend like that.
