4 My first somewhat successful crow in flight. I have always struggled with the blacks on crows..

5 Downy woodpecker... Just for the cuteness factor..(heavy crop)

I like the sparrow, nice look over the shoulder, i think this is one of my favorite angles and positions to photograph a small bird. The leaf is nice too i feel it adds to the photo.

Nice on the crow you got it in good light. I have not even shot a crow i dont think. It always seems as if they look totally black. You got some good colors out of this one.

Love them all except for #3 ... for some reason, I can't put my finger on it, but it doesn't sit well.
Love #4 the most though!!
What lens/es did you use?
Thanks Bright!
I would love to know what doesn't sit right. I had a tough time with this one to be honest. The bird was heavily shadowed so I had to lift shadows quite a bit to bring out the detail. All are shot with a Sigma 120-300 F2.8 and a Sigma 1.4x teleconverter on a D300

I always thinks it portrays an attitude, although I guess "real" bird photographers would never display a "bumm" shot, LOL...
The crow was really lit up from the sun, most of the time I just get a black blob no matter what.
This was about a 55% crop 4288 down to 1986 on the long side so on the D7100 it would leave me with 2800 on the long side... I'm really looking forward to seeing what the sensor on the D7100 can pull out for detail, should be here tomorrow I hope...

Love #1, great stuff!!!

bokeh-licious! I'm more and more impressed with that lens the more I see. Looks very good with the 1.4x on it! I just know the D7100's doubled MP count is going to come in handy for you. I cannot wait to see what YOU can do with a D7100!

Good stuff, Kris! Love the sparrow, the crow and the woodpecker poking out of the tree especially!
You are making me want to trade my Sigma 150-500 for that lens of yours and a TC! But my priorities have suddenly had to shift toward a working vehicle instead of camera gear!

You need to really step up and post plenty of bird photos in the next few weeks. I'm going to have live vicariously through yours for a while, I guess. Not only am I without a vehicle to go to my favorite spots, right now I can't even try to photograph the backyard birds, since I can't yet hold the weight of the camera and lens without hurting.
So, for now, I'll just have to content myself with photos from the rest of my TPF buds! :D

Some Awesome shots here for sure ! And, is a congratulations Due for your Owl photo being picked by Audubon Magazine on fb?
I do believe so ! Congratulations !

I think it's the fact there's too much tree, and then the staining on the tree distracts.
Love the beautiful background though.
I know what your saying, I just ran out of resolution and couldn't really crop it anymore unfortunately..

Love #1, great stuff!!!
Thank you!

I am extremely happy with this lens. I have 0 to say bad about it and it does render quite creamy backgrounds. I'm sure the 1.4x decreases quality a little but I have never seen my shots look so good in LR at 100%+ when I process them. The D7100 will be fun for sure

I will do my best! Sorry to hear you are having such a streak of bad luck. I miss your enthusiastically long fun posts/stories about you adventures

Thank you Clyde! Yes the Audubon magazine seems to like some of my shots lately and they have shared a few. My owl is becoming viral-ish, lol :)
