Some Snowstorm Pics

Winter Storm THOR came through my area yesterday, went around and took some random pictures.


I'm not accustomed to shooting in snow so this is definetly a newbound for me.


Fell into the snow a few times...

Man i wish snowstorms had more interesting skies!

A polarizer filter, and B/W. Snow is a bugger, so think contrast! If sky is 'bad' frame your shot to limit it. When working a snow scene in B/W go to the color sliders blue-purple-magenta and adj them,,,,then look to the green. sounds odd but remember a digi pic is color and a B/W from it is just de-saturated, the color luminence info is still in it and can be adjusted.

Would a circular polarizer help heavily in snow? I just remember circular polarizer is mainly used in cases where we want to saturate more of the sky. Since the sky was overcast would it? The snow was originally white and I just cooked them a bit.

I may put some of these in black and white as suggested see what happens messing around th magenta green!

Not bad for a new subject. The one thing I find with snow is that you have to set exposure compensation to somewhere between +1 to +2 to get white snow, otherwise, it ends up blue and if you then convert it to black and white, it ends up grey rather than white. I am not sure a polarizer would help, because the meter in your camera is set to try and get an exposure at 18% grey and all the white from the snow tends to overwhelm the meter and thus you get blue or grey snow, unless you compensate for it during the exposure.
