sometimes it better to just not touch nice glass

well went out with a newely met photographer. showed him a few local spots as he is new in town.

he had a 500mm f4 afs-ii lens. i tried it out, and it also is only about 1 lb heavier then my 300mm f2.8 afs-ii. it also works suprisingly well with my 2x teleconverter for 1000mm wide open at f8. i was stunned it autofocused so well, but the d800 with autofocus up to f8, and this was with the sun going down. not only that but i can hand hold my 300 all day, and the 500 only being 1 lb heavier, and not being vr, its not much of an issue to handhold this lens the af-s II version at least.

so like i said sometimes it better to not even try stuff, out, cause now i must have

cool! when I was shooting eagles last week I met a guy who had a 600mm f4 VR2 on a Wimberley head and he let me play with it a little bit....it was nice ...I'd love to get something like that, but there are SO many other things that I would need to spend $10k on before a lens. Im happy with my 300 for now.
