Been going through my catalog and found a couple of my son at the harbor back in 2009.

I don't get how this is posted Tuesday at 10:30 PM in Dallas?

The first has quite a bit of perspective distortion and is not nearly as attractive as the second one.
The second is quite an intense, nice shot.
Much too loosely cropped for my taste and over-sharpened - note halos and dark likes at edges.

Yes thank you. Not sure what you mean about post time.

I received other feedback on the second one about over-sharpening. Still new at the post-processing. I will go back to the original and try again.

In the first, his head seems a little bit oddly shaped, but I do like the pose & gaze ... I also might shop out some of the stuff in his nostrils

In the second one ... forgive my newbness, and I hope I have the right terminology here, but it seems that around the man's head and some of the boy's, there a distracting border (artifact?) ... could this be the result of over sharpening? I like the texture in the man's beard, but there is a little white hair on his eye, and the boy's head that I would suggest shopping out.

6 years ago? So were talking about processing here, not where you are with a camera now.
#1. 18mm at point blank is going to distort and no post processing will fix that. Taken at 50mm or thereabouts this could have been a cracking shot (apart from the snotty nose ).

#2. This is a shot that's worth working on IMHO. It's not going to win a pulitzer prize but it could take pride of place in the family album.
