What's new

Sony RX10 M4

G'day all

While acknowledging Jeff's OP, may I bump this post with several images to show the wonderful versatility of these cameras.

We're "on he wallaby" (Aussie slang for we've hit the road Jack...) and sitting quietly in a park I could hear the squark of cockatoos and corellas (similar birds) in a tree about 35metres / 120 feet away. The Lumix FZ-300 (24x zoom) was on the table alongside me, so here's 3- images

1)- the tree some 30m away

exif- FZ-300, 1/640s x F4,0; 1x zoom, ISO-100

2)- the image at 24x zoom (435mm Equiv dSLR / 625mm equiv FFrame)

exif as above, 24x zoom

3)- a crop from above

G'day mate

Nup - I was one of 2-dozen campers using these Rec grounds ... Leyburn Qld, 75km SW of Toowoomba ... and I was sitting next to my motorhome while reading a book - heard then saw these birds flying to and fro from that tree, so that's the story to it all

, Unfortunately, Sony discontinued the RX10 mIV in March 2025, so I have just bought one of the last ones made, it's without doubt the best bridge camera ever made

I saw some interesting news the other day, Sony is re-releasing the RX1 as an M3 with a 61MP sensor. Unfortunately, it will be way out of my price range at over USD $5000.00. Now, if they slapped a 61MP sensor on an RX10 as an M5 version... wonder how much I could get for one of my kidneys... 😂

Sony has said that there will be no RX10 M V. It would be hard to improve what is already the best ...

Due to ill health over recent years I can only carry a Bridge camera. I first bought the RX10 M4 a couple of years ago, it is the world's best Bridge camera. 6 months ago I thought maybe I could reduce the weight I have to carry even more by buying a lighter camera. Having tried a few others and not getting the results that I am used to I became very despondent. While looking for a better camera online I stumbled on a camera shop selling the RX10 for £300 off. So in a few days, I will be back with the best.
I have had several bridge style cameras over the years, Fujifilm S9600, Fujifilm X-S1 (twice) Sony RX10iv (also twice) Lumix FZ200 and Fz330, all great cameras except the X-S1 was let down by slow AF and a soft lens at the long end. But even those cameras have become too bulky for me to carry, so I now have a Olympus Stylus 1, which I have also purchased twice and it is more than enough for my needs now. Here are some of my latest photos

Some excellent shots, I am on my second Sony RX10 M IV. I tried to cut down on size and weight, but when it comes to telephoto lenses on a bridge camera, nothing can beat it. This I know, it has cost a lot of money to find out.

That's a wonderful set of images! That's a nice little camera. I think if they were to slap a 32MP sensor into the Sony RX10, I would be tempted to get it, but even at 20MP its a nice camera.
Thank you Jeff, I got some lovely photos with the RX10iv but just found it way too bulky. I wish the camera manufacturers would invest money back into a more updated compact bridge camera

The technology is there, but the will is not. They may figure that with smart phone cameras everywhere it isn't worth the investment to make pocket cameras again.
