Are you a noob or you are too lazy to google it? Seriously... this topic has been brought up a million times!

Instead of metering a large area of the scene, post metering means you are simply metering a small area (a spot) of the scene.

Searching this on google takes about the same time as you post it here... just saying.

Spot metering works really well if you have a backlit subject, for other applications one of the other metering systems usually works better....unless you know what you are doing and why you are using it.

As mentioned Spot meters off a "spot" in the frame.

And your two replies took longer than just answering the question.

Tell me which answer really give someone an explanation what it really is? You need a long ass reply. Come on. What if you spot meter someones shiny forehead? It is not an easy thing to explain and has been discussed to death.

Knowing what spot metering is the question. Knowing how to properly use spot metering is an entirely different subject.

If someone asked what DSLR stood for, would you launch into a 100-page thesis on how to use one?

OK sparky.. keep up the good work. Keep replying to all of those basic questions such as: what is aperture priority, speed priority, spot metering to all the people who is too lazy google it or read the manual.

Well, there's no reason to have this forum if we can all use Google, is there?

I, for one, happen to enjoy cheeseburgers so I don't see what all the fuss I about.

Im sorry. Did this post waste 5 seconds of your life? Im sorry for ruining your day.

Rudeness won't get you far here! If you want help, fine.. but Schwettylens is right! We have about a bazillion posts on different types of metering. Not to mention Google will find links like the one I kindly posted for you! :)
