Instead of metering a large area of the scene, post metering means you are simply metering a small area (a spot) of the scene.

Spot metering works really well if you have a backlit subject, for other applications one of the other metering systems usually works better....unless you know what you are doing and why you are using it.

As mentioned Spot meters off a "spot" in the frame.

Tell me which answer really give someone an explanation what it really is? You need a long ass reply. Come on. What if you spot meter someones shiny forehead? It is not an easy thing to explain and has been discussed to death.

Knowing what spot metering is the question. Knowing how to properly use spot metering is an entirely different subject.

If someone asked what DSLR stood for, would you launch into a 100-page thesis on how to use one?

Rudeness won't get you far here! If you want help, fine.. but Schwettylens is right! We have about a bazillion posts on different types of metering. Not to mention Google will find links like the one I kindly posted for you!
