Cool!! Love this technique, I wanna try it now. But I zoomed into the photo and it looks like a painting. Are there any reasons for that, or is it just me?

It was shot in the dark with the cd only being lit with a small flashlight. I was fooling around with my camera attached at an Asus Transformer Pad and the Pad changed the save setting in the camera from Raw to jpeg so the pic is pretty course. That must be what you see. Settings were something like f22 for 8 seconds at ISO400. I was using a reverse ring on a 28-300mm lens and pretty close to the subject. Those water drops were very small. I then cleaned up a lot of artifacts so all in all thats probably why it looks the way it does.

Oh okay. Now it all makes sense. But what was the reason you chose a shutter speed of 8 seconds, was it to get in more light or something like saturation?

The reason for the long exposure is because it gives time to move the flashlight around. As you move it around the prismic colors of the CD move around too instead of having just a band or stripe of color. Try it and you will see what I mean.
