Spring Is For Street Shooting

It is spring !!! I have officially opened my street shooting season.

1 is somewhat interesting because of the photo on the wall, the shape of her arms, and then the mother with carriage in front of it.
The others look like pointless snapshots unless im missing something.

It helps to look at them in the larger size. I think these are great! There are subtleties in each photograph.

The fourth is the portrait of a retired Spiderman, in case you are missing it.

The other three have just one point - it is spring in the air here. Otherwise you are correct: just a sunny beautiful weather, a beautiful girl, a beautiful boy and a tattooed pair in the clouds - completely pointless.

That was luck. I did not see the bus either untill pp.

I don't know how intentional everything is, but there's something amusing about most of them. Like the girl with headphones on when live music is right next to her. Or the person showing an uneven hand gesture while the frame tips.

They would be much stronger images though if the cool or funny things were more isolated. Fill your frame with the subject, and draw the eye to the important parts. If it weren't for one of the other posters saying to look at them large, I would have rolled my eyes and left without every glancing further, probably. For instance, if the headphones was intentional, you could crop half the rest of the shot out and move to the left more to reduce negative space between them. Or that huge ice cream cone wall has nothing to do with spiderman and is more visually luring, etc.

had there been a reflection of an airplane in the glass in the last, it would have been a winner for me.

Thanks for your comment, much apprecialted. I am glad you have noticed that uneven gesture in a tilted frame, I was kind of hesitatnt about that, but it does work, as it seems. With the girl - I just snapped her passing by, to me this image majors on diagonal dynamics with the shades and her movement. I often struggle to produce a decent shot with a close moving target like that, so I am happy with this one.

As for isolating the main focus - I know what you mean, but I am currently moving in an opposite direction. I do not feel satisfied with these closed/zoomed street shots, it is the easiest way of shooting the street, but it does not give you the street atmosphere, perspective and "being there" feeling. I have started to shoot with a 28 мм prime now, and I can tell you, it is hard. You are right, there is a lot in these frames that could be cropped, but i am leaving it intentionally, i prefer this "warts and all" aproach for the time being. I know where I want to be going in terms of scale and composition, but I am not yet there. The ice cream wall is distracting, yes, but I kept it purely for perspective. And I started to like the images with no obvious focal points, but as soon as you move away from obvious compositions, things get complicated and often too subtle to manage, if you know what I mean.

.. And the headphones were not intentional, I just saw the beautiful girl and the gesture, and light was great. But as it often happens street shots give you a lot of unintentional garbage AND some unexpected bonuses.

Competely agree. A nuclear mushroom would be even better. But I was unlucky this time.

(... but doesn't his hand look like an airplane in the sky? And if you look closer, there three UFOs in the sky)

makes sense. once you lose the focal point or obvious subject the frame becomes a whole lot more complicated and involved. And more difficult to shoot. I totally get this.
