!837 - Busy day for a curate- 60 Baptisms (six pages photographed) in the one day!
Signature.jpg

The circled witness at this 1927 wedding was the man who built our house in the 1890's

I am part of an archive group and we had an open evening with talks in our Paris Church. Built late 1100's - possibly by craftsmen building Ely Cathedral down the hill and recorded Rectors from mid 1200's. Some of whom great characters and wealthy. One who built the very large rectory in about 1790 had cook and four skivvies plus groom and two gardeners - not bad for a cleric for a small village as population in 1600's dropped to just over 400.

60 baptisms in one day?! The priest was kept busy that day, for sure. Nice to see the old cursive handwriting, but it's a little difficult to decipher (I can only make out a few words here and there). It makes for an interesting looking photograph though. The old wording ("Condition - Spinster") makes me laugh. Thanks for sharing these slices of history.
