How many Brides have walked through this arch in the last 900 years without looking up at the creature holding its nose above.

The old stonemasons - as well as telling a story in their carvings had a sense of humour.

Norman arch dating back to about 1200 - again most likely masons from the big building site down the hill as Ely Cathedral was being built.

Last evening wandering round the church at our archive group - for once with a camera and not having to read of a Sunday morning.

Love it! And love the big iron hinges and decorations on that door. Amazing to think the carvings have lasted all this time.
