~ Stream Song ~

I lay down, prone upon rocks that were once carried by glaciers having long receded
They are damp, cool, and hard against my old and tired bones
I view the landscape stretching out before me, taking in all that it offers
A gentle cascade of water is shifting from transparent to an opaque white
I strain my eyes to catch a glimpse of the small native brook trout darting through the riffles
My efforts are thwarted as the swimming gems elude my eyes, they now o'er a half century aged
I surrender not, I listen for that which my eyes can no longer clearly see
The stream babbles the song of her eternal flow toward the sea as daylight fades
The rhythm of water upon rock assures me that those finned jewels are still just beneath the surface
The stream song brings me peace during these stressful times, I take rest upon my bed of stone
