Hello there TPF! This is my first thread so please be easy on me
I'm reading a course called "Photograpic imaging A" which is a very basic course. We got an assignment to shoot five images that all represents the same theme. I choose the theme "Strength"

My first image is this HDR shot of a hand holding up a whole building.
I got two shoots of it and i can't decide which of them that represents my theme in the best way. Therefore i'll make it easy and let you photographers decide for me :D

I would go for #2, for me, the first one with that angle loses the idea of strength; however, you probably going to get a million different answers.

My thought is that you sees how big the house the hand is really holding up in #1. However i'll reshoot this image in the next week from another angle (more from the tunnel)

The selective colored bit really dominates your subject, making the hand a secondary player.

The thing with the coloring is that in this theme. I'll give all five images the same style. all of them will be kinda grunge and with the selective coloring.
I think the mix of red and BW in all five images will give the overall feeling a nice touch.

Oh, so the "strength" you are trying to get across has less to do with the hand, and more about how the intensity of a single color can dominate a scene?

Not really. but since all the other images won't have as much red in them i think the collage or theme (i don't know how we will present our work yet)
Needs an image to really show my thought.

I totally love the concept. The raw material to work with is awesome with the various elements including the background. I would lose the color and go all B&W on the final rendition for maximum punch. Also the lines and angles need to be explored very thoroughly to get the final rendition, I don't think these are it. Color versions might be a good second option but B&W will probably dwarf them for impact.

You are obviously quite handy with photoshop so why not try coloring the hand red?

Thank you folks! I think i'll go with this retuch in these two photos.
If i does a reshoot in next week i'll give them less grunge and try cleaning em' up further.
In next week i'll also shoot atleast three of the other images, then i can show you what the style is about.

Vertical lines certainly convey "strength".

If I was the course instructor I would grade it a C.

I agree with Bitter that the primary image element is the hand, but that the hands visual weight has been negated by the selectively coloring, and giving primary visual element weight to what is at best a quinary image element.

Primary image element - the hand
Secondary image element - the horizontal ledge
Tertiary image element - the dark vertical line (drain pipe?) on the right.
Quaternary image element - where the leading vertical line leads us, the top of the building.

aaaaw. Here's you freaking red hand!
