Have any of you guys bought the package of Stuck In Customs HDR Photography ?

Well. i was interested. I wanted to do HDR.

Should i buy it or is it a waste of time?

I think the price is very steep. There are lots of programs, books etc that can be very helpful.

Right now Trey is very popular and very good at marketing, but there are others who do great HDR work and won't charge an arm and a leg.

You might check out David Nightingale for a start

Also, check out Rick Sammon. He has some good books, well written and easy to undrstand.

I have attended the class - and found it very valuable.

Its a waste of money. I am sure you would learn something from it, but its all stuff that can be learned for free with a little searching and practice

Shooting HDR is so simple you dont need to spend any money on having someone teach you how to press the shutter on your camera. Putting the images through Photomatix also doesnt need any explanation. If you use the latest version of Photomatix the presets are great help.

If you feel you need some learning assistance or a means to ramp up quickly, I would very much recommend a recent publication called The HDR Book by Rafael "RC" Concepcion, published by Peachpit Press. So far its the best HDR book I have reviewed. RC walks you through 10 projects and supplies a link to 2.5GB of the same bracketed image files and all of his settings & presets that he uses in the book, so you can replicate, practice, or get creative on your own. It's definitely worth the $40 ($46.99 Cdn for Bynx minus his Chapters/Indigo/Amazon discount).

Great question OP, I wondered that myself... I think a lot of what Trey does, his tiny little secrets, he will never pass on. It is virtually impossible to replicate his work exactly.. In saying that, it is up to each of us to individualise our work to make it our own. Trey also doesn't rely on selling his photos to make a living, he is a good marketer of his online courses, which everyone is doing these days....

I can't believe people pay for all these classes and books. Definitely gets me thinking.

He's a cool guy and probably has some great things to share. But I believe the best way to learn is learning the hard way: teach yourself. Maybe you'll invent your own approaches to situations that exceed his in some ways. Maybe your workflow will become more efficient as you discover your own methods for accomplishing things.
