I dont want to buy something that will not do the job, as I have been spending loads buying equipment that I soon outgrow...

I will prob not use gear a lot outside, but you mention 800w!!!

will 500w full power closer to the subject work??

As im using simple lux rules for that ( closer the object more light refraction ) also this may help lower the f stop?? and having a kit of 2 ( 500w ) would it be poss to line them up on the shadow side ( hopefully giving an even lower f stop ) or to add softness to the whole image with a softbox, ( dont know if a 500 will help in california, I live in UK so a candle will offer more light usually lol )

PS Have just booked a Portrait Course as to try some studio gear with a Pro, so I hope this will help me,

I will post some of the photo's along with camera set up and studio set up...
