Succulent Serpents

While I sometimes find myself a little jealous of those who live in lush, forested areas like the pacific NW, I really like the simplicity and sparseness of my surroundings in the Sonoran desert. One of my favorite subjects is the Agave Marginata which I think makes for nice B&W shots due to the contrast of the dark green center and bright yellow "margins". I also like the twisting shapes along with thorns that resemble the fangs of another desert icon, the rattle snake. Any C&C is more than welcome...

I agree, when using a very narrow dof in your images it becomes more than just background separation. There really needs to be a strong logic within the image that directs the eye to or around the focussed part. Without it you generally get confusion as the viewer tries to search not only for that logic but sometimes it's hard to find the focussed parts as well, (in some images I've seen, not these).
3 would work quite well if the dof extended to most of the thorns on the two dominant lines.
