I agree, very nice shot. It's nice to see a shot like this that isn't HDR'd all up to yin yang. As a purist, I don't ever like over done HDR imaging. I see it a lot for images like this.

Funny in that I like your shot, but today I shot the Washington Monument across the Potomac with a sunburst sun behind it. I liked it. My wife said it looked fake. I think next time I'll shoot another version with a big orange blob in the sky and show her the difference.

I forgot to clarify : Usually images like this I see, are quite HDR processed.

I will use HDR when it is the only way to bring out details in shadows that I actually saw when I shot the scene. The in-camera HDR is actually pretty good for this.

To be clear I have a Canon 6D mark II and a T7i that both support in camera HDR. The former has a number of settings that can either make it look "overbaked" or simply naturally higher dynamic range. On Canon at least, it takes three images bracketed for exposure and then, in camera, combines them. The first time I used it I could not believe how well it worked.

It is definitely worth practicing with because at some point you're going to see something that warrants it and you might as well be ready.
