I guess not.

Edited to add: This is an unedited shot straight from the camera. At this time I have not begun to edit my shots other than to crop some of them. The software I am using came with Windows. It has a rotation option, but only 90 degrees a click.

To be honest, I had not noticed how crooked I was as I was mainly in awe of nature's beauty when taking this shot.

At the time I was allowing ISO to do it's thing and concentrating on shutter speed and aperture. I was worried that ISO was creeping too high so I locked it down and grabbed a shot.

I did hurry the shot as it is amazing how fast the sun rises when it is coming over the horizon.

But I do appreciate you noticing that my shot was not following the basic rules of photography.

My goal is to take shots that require little to no editing and also convey the essence of whatever the subject may be.

This was taken on Hilton Head Island Beach, South Carolina, about 3 blocks south of Coligny Square.

Meh, I don't think any rules were broken here. I agree the horizon could use a slight rotation and the image would be stronger for it.

But I'd rather enjoy a perfect exposure like this than a digitally blown out sun with a straight horizon. Digital photography can do awful things with bright values if the photographer isn't careful.

Truthfully, I'd prefer to not edit my pictures and get them right in camera. I am having a lot of fun figuring out how to make the camera do what I want it to do. ISO kept wanting to skyrocket to 6400 and I thought that would be too grainy, er, noisy. I locked it down and then played with the shutter and aperture. Locking down the ISO makes it similar to working with film. You have to work with whatever the ASA of the film you have!

Thanks and a beautiful place! I visited Atlanta once for work (I'm from Europe), but sadly didn't had time to travel around. Would love to come back to that area!
