Sunrise On The Mississippi

This past week we were stopped at a campground right on the river's edge and far from the distractions of city lights. I took the opportunity to get my lazy rear out of bed before daylight to capture some sunrise shots. The sun and weather were cooperative, but I struggled. This was one of the better of the bunch, pretty much out of the camera with a few adjustments, and crop. Problem I had was keeping the sun and reflection from blowing out. I have some others, that I plan on stacking and blending later, to see if I can do better on a composite. Any suggestions on shooting something like this in the future?

I generally focus then reframe so that the metering is set for the immediate sky area around the sun. It still gets a little tricky, but for the most part it works.

I was doing something similar. Metering off the sun, using AE lock then refocusing. I never realized how FAST the light changes as the sun is coming up.

Yeah, that's why I typically do it the opposite way: focus lock then reframe.
