I like how unprofessional phone photos can look. Theres something underground about it to me. I pretend im good but i can tell the difference when i see a real photographers work.

quit with the text overlay - that may work as greeting cards or posters but if you want to be a photographer take pictures.
odd angles so you don't see a face on a portrait or see up someone's nose don't make it.

learn about composition
learn about photography, why do you like these pictures, why would anyone else like the pictures?
there are answers so you have to know enough to be able to answer.
there are no tricks, there is only learning, experience, effort and, if you're really lucky, talent.

I like Instagram's built in editor.

read read read. The chicago pic is set with a small aperature (everything is in focus)...whereas the Monday (putty tat) photo is set with a large aperature (background out of focus). then you tossed in a black and white photo. Focus on one style for ease of learning would be my advice. Easier to master 1 thing than many....

Sorry, I have to respectfully disagree. A good photographer should never have to go back to #1 as they should always be doing #1. If there ever comes a day when a good photographer is not doing #1 then they are DEAD!

thanks guys. I know the overlay stuff is corny but the Cat one was a "Mondays be like..." meme and the Chicago photo was something I sent to my mom when she asked my how I liked the city while visiting last week. I can't find the original of the chicago one on my phone and I didn't want to dig for the original cat pic otherwise I wouldn't have posted them. Thank you for the information. I really love photography and there's something about seeing a photo that you think is amazing and how it connects you with the photographer. Well... I guess it's that way with all art. I'm so busy that I don't think I'll ever have time to dive into the artform like I would like to so shooting stuff from my phone and doing simple edits is what i'm limited to at the time. I appreciate the advice and who knows, maybe my interest will get to a point where I make time and learn more. Also... Nostrils are cool. lol.
