Good exposure, but when the Moon is full so much surface detail is lost because there are no shadows.

Try getting the MC-DC2 wired remote. I like it better than the IR remote for stuff like this.

It's 100% reliable. The IR remote has to be able to be 'seen' by the camera. The hard-wired remote isn't as finicky.

Granted, the hard-wired is only 3', so it has it limitations. But when shooting with a tripod, I'm usually right there. I do have the IR remote, but use it only when I want my ugly self in the shot.
