No critiques? Not even any comments to say how gorgeous those eyes are? :-(

LOL, but seriously, I would love any tips or advice to help me improve.

From the exif, it seems you didn't use a flash but the light seems to be on axis and takes all the structure out of the skin.

You need to light this better and softer.

He's very cute! Keep shooting, these shots are mostly sentimental to you, but not particularly "special" to an objective third party. It's tough to take a baby picture that hasn't already been taken!

On axis? I am working with just my DSLR and kit lens for now. This was taken on my covered back deck so that there was plenty of light, but no direct sunlight. Any (semi-cheap) suggestions for lighting better and softer?

Thanks so very much for your feedback.

What?! You don't think he's the cutest baby in the history of mankind?? What is WRONG with you? ;)

Just trying to get better with the technical stuff and capture some memories along the way. I'm not expecting to revolutionize baby photography. lol

Okay, I moved him inside instead of on the deck, put him at an angle in front of a window, and covered the window with a sheer white curtain to act as a diffuser. Definitely more structure in the face this time. Is this an improvement? Any other suggestions?

Could just be me but it seems like the focus on his eyes is a little soft.
