Aside from the composition (I like the 'negative space' to the top and left), she has a familial/personal feel.

I like this shot. It tells a story. About the place, the quaintness of the woman, bespectacled with her sewing basket. Keep them coming. They are a joy to see. Ed

Subject does not "read".

Move to the right, or the left, and drop down, to place the relatively light face against a dark shadowed area, and to get the post - which has the exact tonality and color of her face - away from her. There's no foreground/background confusion to the usual rallying cry of "POST GROWING OUT OF HER HEAD" does not apply, but she's lost in a sea of similar tones and colors, except for her headgear - which reads (weakly) as the subject. The collection of colored empty boxes behind her isn't helping.

Good subject, but not a particularly good image.

Nice. Image reads better, the subject is just as good if not better. I know you love the context, and I'm right there with you. The closer-in one is stronger, though, as an image.

Adam Marelli has a trick, which is probably old hat to painters. Close one eye, and squint the other. This blurs and abstracts the image. What pops out?

i prefer the tighter crop for similar reasons to photoguy99. Less distracting to me although many times I love distractions/elements. I have enjoyed seeing your photos The_Traveler, hope you are able to post more in time

thanks, I have a great many more but many are just people shots that may not have much interest/impact.

Well, after you thorough test run now. How are you liking the new camera? Working for you ?

i think the second image would be stronger with a much tighter crop. I would have cut off the green basket at her feet and left only the plastic bag with faces, cut the upper part of the hat quite aggressively, trimmed anythind to the right of the post and cut part of her elbow on the left side. That would give a good enough close-up on what she is doing, remove all clatter, and make the shot more intimate, with right proportions.
