Tamron 150-600 Service Update

I know a bunch of you guys are picking up this lens, just letting you know of a firmware update for it. They always recommended turning VC off when panning, seems they've updated the firmware so it works when it detects panning.

Nikon Service Updates

We are pleased to advise you that the VC function of SP 150-600mm now can be updated to accommodate panning shots with VC Mode “ON”.

Whether you try to capture a stationary subject or something moving at a relatively high speed such as automobiles, the system automatically selects the optimal VC mode by detecting the motion of the camera/lens outfit. Thus, no switch-over is required between “ON” and “OFF” after the update.

The modification can be done by overwriting the firmware data at Tamron authorized service station. For handling procedures please contact our service department at 1-800-827-8880 (option 1) or by emailing us at custserv@tamron.com.

I emailed about turn around time:

Our current turn-around time is approximately 3 business days + shipping, depending on the volume of lenses that we receive at the same time as yours. Please let me know if there is anything else that you need.

I'm very glad as I'm going up to Watkins Glen at the end of the month. I'll be sending my lens in tomorrow.

I sent mine in for an early firmware update and it was in fact just a few days turnaround; was very happy with the service. (from NY to Cali).

They got my lens yesterday morning. Counting the days...

edit: they've updated me with this:

Symptoms: VCP VC PANNING IS INOPERABLE
D DUST OR DEBRIS INSIDE LENS

Repairs: 001 IN YEAR ONE OF WARRANTY
VCP CORRECTED VC PANNING FUNCTION
D DISASSEMBLE AND CLEAN ENTIRE LENS.

2 TURNAROUND TIME APPROX 3 BUSINESS DAYS 800-827-8880


I had no idea the lens had any internal dust. I've only used it a handful of times.
