Tamron Telephoto SP AF 90mm f/2.8 Di Macro

B&H is having a promotion right now with this Tamron lens (not sure if it is going on everywhere). $50 mail in rebate! So the lens is $409.95 if you buy it in the next 2 days! I just bought one. I hope it is as good as what everyone is saying. It will be here in 6 days. I cant wait to try it! I heard it is really good for portraits too! The AF is a little slow though.

Everything you said sounds spot on to me. The AF is a little slow, but the images are very punchy and super sharp. Good Bokeh as well. Its a great lens, for sure! Congrats!

It's regular $429 at Aden Camera up here in Canada. Already got the 100mm 2.8 macro Canon and the 85mm 1.8 anyway. I don't use the macro for portraits... it's a slow focus for me. The 85mm is one of my favourite lenses for portraits. I picked mine up used a couple years ago for $350 and I see that it is more expensive than the Tamron coming in at $515 new. Did you buy for macro or portrait use?

No, for macro. For wedding detail shots mosty (ring, jewelry, etc.) but I will finally start taking pics of little creatures. I wont really use it for portraits but I may do it once in a while. I heard the bokeh is really nice. I have to compare it with my 70-200 f/2.8L IS mk1. Well, considering Canadian $ is stronger, $410 USD is a good deal.

Tammy has long been reported as a very good lens both for macro and for portrait. The only minus seems to be the extensible focusing tubes that can frighten insects.
It's a no brains buy, for sure.

I think your going to love that lens from everything I've heard ....and marco shooting is a ball .... I went out over the winter and got myself the sigma 150 and it's everything I heard of it so I'm sure you'll have the same luck .... it's just awesome to do the close up stuff!! OH and BTW is you love shooting you may want to consider some tubes in the future .... I'm thinking Christmas for me ..wife loves buying me stuff !
