tech support needed PLZ HELP

can somebody plz put some user friendly simple instructions for me??
(been using google youtube etc all day with NO success
I AM TRYING TO SELECTIVE COLOR IN LIGHTROOM 5
(specifically put one item in color and make everything else black & white)

I don't know if this is the correct sub-forum.

I've not worked in Lightroom; but that would seem to be a job for Photoshop (select a mask, duplicate it to another layer, then turn the background layer B&W with an adjustment layer... the most complex part is the edge on your mask.

This is really a case for Google. You have a very specific tool you are using and a specific thing you ate trying to do... And there are probably a million guides and videos on it.

i switched to lightroom hoping it would be more user friendly & i just joined this forum after several hours of googling/youtube were unsuccessful

Lightroom does not have that power as far as I know. That would really be a job for Photoshop. Lightroom is more for corrections/basic edits and workflow, Photoshop for the more advanced.
If I'm wrong PLEASE correct me, then I will have learned something new.

In the H/S/L tab desperate and adjust lightness for every color other than the one you want. If there is overlap of the color in other areas use the adjustment brush to deaturate the other areas.... simple.

But usually a bad idea IMO...
