Basic ? Pentax K1000 is a basic slr, D3100 is capable of so much more, than basic.
Picture, IMHO, are quite typical beginners pictures. The most interesting is the cat, but what you did is a pic good for "Happy Birthday" card.
Keep shooting, learn to see the world around you, pick from it what has a harmony and beauty.

I understand, but what i'm talking about is quality, not composition. Ofcourse you can take a great picture with an ipod and a bad picture with a canon 5d mark II. But the quality on the ipod pic would suck compared to mark II. That's what i meant when i said "really basic DSLR". Thanks so much for your comment!

I don't think that is the whole truth. Professionals are using high end cameras for many other than picture quality reasons. You can make a 8x10 print using file from p&s camera and no one would be able to say it was a lowly p&s. All, what matters is to know the camera and what you doing. This knowledge is not sold together with any camera, it has to be acquire by other means: learning and experience. Think, what do you want to achieve before you trip the trigger, it is called "visualization", it will give you good advantage in field. Remember, that camera and it's ability that's one, the second thing is post processing, where you really form your vision into final form.
