The Veterans Day Parade passes by my office so I ran out to shoot a little bit of it with the little amount of free time I had today. I didn't get any ideal shots but it's nice to acknowledge them. So Thank you to all the Vets on our forum and to our Vets from around the country!

What I see in these shots is a lack of concentration.
Look at the potential subjects, figure out quickly what the points of interest are, then orient the camera and fill the frame.
Yes, I know they are walking by, but that's the challenge.

Indeed. It was a challenge. There are thousands of people everywhere. There is always someone in your shot. Unless you can walk the parade route with press credentials you're lucky to get anything at all. But I will get better with practice!

Practice is the only thing that improves your ability to see and get the shot.

BTW, I think your instincts were right on with this one - a very, very nice shot.
Lightened his face and sharpened it a bit to make it the center.
And darkened the rest a bit.

IMO, a portfolio shot.
